Mental Health First Aid is a course that educates individuals how to recognise, understand and support those who may be developing a mental health problem. The course was first established in Australia in 2000 and is now recognised in 23 countries. In England 1,200 instructors have delivered the courses to more than 100,000 people.

This guide discusses actions that can be taken to address mental ill health discrimination and stigma. Although the guide is not written specifically for the workplace it discusses discrimination in the workplace.

Bring Time to Change to your Workplace

Time to Change is England's biggest programme to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination.  One of the focuses for Time to Change is stigma in the workplace.  This section of the website details suggestions for how you can take Time To Change to your workplace this includes signing the Employer Pledge, currently more than 400 employers in England have signed the pledge and becoming an Employee Champion.  Additionally, materials are provided to help organise events and activities in the workplace.

See Me is the Scottish programme to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination and enable people who experience mental health problems to live fulfilled lives. 

 

The two resources provided here are:

  1. See Me in Work. Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health. This document covers the legal moral and business cases for considering mental health in the workplace.
